My cat does not love me

When you feel that your cat does not love you, recognise and affirm by telling yourself: This is about me and not necessarily about my cat.

Cats all have distinct personalities but some cats have suffered various emotional trauma and reflect this in their behavior.

It could also be a lack of socialising as a young kitten which imprinted this behavior on the cat.

There are various other reasons why your cat may seem distant, for example mistreatment by previous humans, invasive medical trauma or even just not used to human contact.

Solutions:

For kittens : Handle kittens gently at a young age by touch, rubbing and stroking.

For cats : Start by giving the cat much smaller meals, more regularly. This should help the cat associate food with you. Talk to the cat while giving it food and try to stroke the cat while it is eating. Sit on the floor at the same level as the cat and play with a piece of string to entice the cat to play with you. To socialise a cat needs patience, care and a gentle understanding of how the cat feels in the situation.

Things not to do includes not chasing the cat and not forcing to pick up a cat that does not want to be picked up. More trauma will only make it worse.
