Kittens at time of adoption should be 8 weeks old. Kittens are fed four small regular meals at least five hours apart until they are 12 weeks old.
Kittens older than 12 weeks can be fed fewer meals until they are 24 weeks old and then they should only be fed twice daily.
You do not need to feed your kitten on any schedule and you can leave dry food available for kittens to eat at any time (just make sure that it is not older than one day)
Cats are not dogs and generally stop eating when they have had enough. Cats also usually eat whenever they want to, but feeding your kitten on a schedule, at least initially, helps you to understand if your kitten is eating too much If your kitten is eating too little you need to visit your vet for a health checkup.
Generally, kittens at 8 weeks old requires around 200 calories per day. the amount of calories required approximately doubles at around 12 to 16 weeks old and doubles again for larger breeds around 24 weeks of age.
Milk : There is no need to give your kitten milk (except as a treat) if you are feeding your kitten a balanced commerical diet. Quality commercial cat food should already be formulated to contain calcium and other minerals for healthy growth of your kitten.
If you are not going to use commercial kitten food, kittens may grow up to become fussy eaters. Either way always ensure to provide a balanced diet with enough (not too much) protein, carbs, minerals and vitamins. Cats should not be fed raw meat or raw fish. diets containing too much red meat could cause calcium and vitamin deficiencies. Diets containing too much fish or too much liver may cause bowel problems.
Kittens (and Cats) require essential amino acids, like taurine so cats (and kittens) have higher protein requirements than other animals.
Kittens should not be fed commercial puppy or dog food, the protein ratios are wrong, the essential amino acid supplements are not added to the formulated commercial dog food. That said, if it is for a single day only, maybe as an emergency, the kitten will be fine as the kitten will use stored reserves of specifically taurine.
